Our Story

Cooking Runs in Our Family

Culinary Outfitters was started by family friend, Chris Way, in the early 90's when he saw a need in the community for catered events in homes and venues. Mary Pritchard was his catering manager who later purchased it from him in 1999. In 2005, Mary was joined by her son, Chase who had spent most of his life fishing with his father and helping at his Commercial Seafood Shop (formerly known as Chester’s) learning butchering skills and different textures of the ocean. Chase eventually moved forward with his career, spending four years in Miami attending Culinary School at Le Cordon Bleu and learning the flavors of the Caribbean. He then took himself to the next level, moving to New York City to work alongside today's Rising Chefs of NYC and learning from the country’s best.

Today, Culinary Outfitters is known as a local favorite with the last 9 years being voted best caterer in St. Augustine by “Best of St. Augustine”.

Looking to the future, Mary's son, Chase, says:

"My many years of involvement with internationally recognized culinary institutions has emboldened me to pursue my own vision, a waterfront dining experience accompanied with American and international sustainably sourced cuisine. Highlighting as much local variety as possible"

That vision is soon to be realized with the family's newest and most ambitious project, Culinary Outfitters Waterfront at the St. Augustine Shipyard.

"We hope the restaurant will continue to be a local favorite, but also help set the tone for the area’s newest and boldest dining experience."

Chef Chase Pritchard’s love for the Ocean developed at an early age. He spent most of his time fishing with his father and helping at his Commercial Seafood Shop (formerly known as Chester’s) learning butchering skills and different textures of the ocean. As Chase’s love and respect for Mother Ocean was cultivated, so was his eagerness to learn. His earliest culinary Career started in the kitchens of Barnacle Bills. Chase spent four years in Miami attending Culinary School at Le Cordon Bleu and learning the flavors of the Caribbean. He then took himself to the next level, moving to New York City to work alongside today's Rising Chefs of NYC and learning from the country’s best. After spending time at some of New York’s hottest restaurants, Le Cirque, Public & Double Crown, Chase took a management position as sous chef with Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG). Being Mentored by Michael Romano and Robb Garceau with deep French backgrounds, Chase has rounded himself into the Executive Chef of Culinary Outfitters. A native of New York, but with St. Augustine deep in her heart, Heather has over 20 years of experience in the hospitality sector. In the early 2000s, she lived in St Augustine Beach and worked in many of the landmark restaurants around town. She began her professional career in NYC working as the Catering and Events Director in the Broadway's Theater District, working with many high-end clients, often hosting opening and closing night events for Broadway shows such as 'The Understudy", "Rent" and the Roundabout Theater Company.

For ten years she helped grow the events department and began selling and coordinating weddings. That's where she found her true love for wedding planning. She then took a few years off to become a mom.

Heather and her family have been visiting St. Augustine for many years and in 2018 moved here. She then took her love for weddings and events and worked as the General Manager for a local wedding venue. Her love for details and planning landed her at Culinary Outfitters. Heather loves the beach and outdoors and all that life in St. Augustine holds and will bring her love of our beautiful town to your event.
